Wolverine Claws, Scandal Paddles and Fluffy Fur Floggers, OH MY!
If you’ve seen Netflix’s new series Sex, Love and Goop you most likely noticed the multitude of fun sensation play items used throughout the series. And oftentimes they aren’t what you expected. When working with my clients I frequently recommend that they put together a Sensation Play kit.
Here are some tips for getting started…
What is Sensation Play?
Sensation Play is a way to help you get more deeply embodied while having fun and learning more about what your body likes when it comes to touch with hands, mouths, and various sensations provided through creative toys. Sensation Play provides you with a pathway to getting present with your lover by paying attention to every quiver and shiver that moves through their body as you play.
It is a way to more deeply connect, get curious about your turn on, play and explore!
What do you need to Begin?
At the foundation of everything we do here, are the 5 Erotic Blueprint Types™. If you don’t know your type or haven’t taken the Erotic Blueprint Quiz yet, you may want to start there so you know which toys are going to be the best fit for you.
Any Sensation Play item can be what I call “Blueprintified.” When we Blueprintify something, we discover ways that that item can be used in your preferred Blueprint for maximum turn-on.
What’s the number one thing I recommend my clients start with?
A massage table!
This is one of the most versatile pleasure objects in your Sensation Play tool kit. You can use it for energy play (for all you Energetics), or sensual massages (just add warm oil), or to have intercourse on in a variety of positions, or get kinky by using ropes to tie your lover to the table, or mix it all up for you Shapeshifters. I feel that if you are going to spend money on anything, your first purchase should be a portable massage table!
In the show, Sex Love & Goop, I work with Erika and Damon on a massage table for a process we call Body Mapping, which we teach in our Erotic Blueprint Breakthrough Course.
The possibilities are endless!
What are some of the items seen in the show?
The items that got the most attention were the Wolverine Claws.
They certainly get a reaction. I first saw these claws at one of our workshops in Costa Rica when Kink Educator, Orpheus Black, pulled them out during a rope tie demonstration for our participants.
They look so edgy and they feel so amazing! Don’t let the look of them intimidate you, however. They can actually be used for every Blueprint.
For Energetics just tease that you are going to use them but don’t even touch your lover’s skin – hover and feel their anticipation! With Sensuals, the cold sensation can be a delicious contrast on the skin, the smoothness of the metal so yummy! Of course, the Kinky Blueprint™ may love the scratch, especially when blindfolded and tied with some rope (which was also in the show). Sexuals, well just add genital touch (but be careful 😉 And for Shapeshifters – why not try it all?
Fluffy Fur Floggers are another favorite of mine.
I love Firebird Leathers, I’ve been recommending them for years because they can be used in so many different ways and clients absolutely love them. Add a vibrator to make it a combined experience of vibration and fur! You can get them in a variety of colors and even with weighted metal at the ends!

In the show, you will also see a chain flogger, which I had custom-made by an Etsy artist. I love supporting artists on Etsy and I find they make quality and unique products.
Another staple of your Sensation Play kit is an Eye Mask or Blindfold.
Feeling stuck in your head? An Eye Mask is an easy way to help you drop more into your body.
Featured in the show is the Kismask, made by one of our Erotic Blueprint Coaches, Kismet. It’s a black-out mask that has beautiful etching on the outside that makes it so sexy. She makes them in a variety of colors and shapes. We love them!
But don’t feel like you have to make a huge investment to start creating your Sensation Play Kit.
The local dollar store has so many fun things that you can use and you may already have an entire Sensation Play kit right in your home. If you go to the dollar store, visit the cat toy section, the car wash section, the makeup section, and the toothbrush section; you’ll find all kinds of things you can create sensations from.
Get creative and have fun shopping!
At home find forks, spoons, wooden spoons, spatulas, furry sweaters, sensual foods, and so much more. You might start looking at things around your house a little differently! My friend and colleague, Jaeleen Bennis, the creator of Bondassage, calls these pervertables! You can take anything and make it a pervertable!
And finally, don’t forget your hands!!!
Your hands are one of the most versatile sensation items you have. Learning touch skills in all of the Blueprints is key to becoming a phenomenal lover. Massage, Energy Play (as you saw my partner Ian and I demonstrate in the show), Impact Play and so much more can be done with your hands.
They are the best, and they don’t cost a penny!
